it never would have occurred to me to do this, but i've been doing some reading and have found that some people find showering before practice beneficial.
what are people's thoughts about showering before yoga practice? yay or nay? all input appreciated.

Yes! Absolutely. It's basic courtesy if you are going to practice with other people, and especially if you expect your teacher to adjust you.

I always shower and brush my teeth before practice, but it's mostly a mental thing. I feel that I begin the practice with a fresh and ready state of mind.
Plus (1) I get a little more sunlight, which is important to me, since I practice at home, outdoors when I can, and (2) when I'm done I'm ready to
begin the rest of my day without having to interrupt the flow by taking a shower.

It's a must. And no post shower potions and lotions, if possible.

Essential if you are going to be in a room/shala with other people. To not do so is plain inconsiderate. Ditto Doug on the potions and lotions.
In winter also I find it is really great to waken and warm the body. |

I have tried it a couple of times, but I did not like it. I do not shower at home the days I practice later in the day.

It takes time. You have one more wet towel, which means you cannot use your driest towel for the shower after practice. It might be the tipping edge for your
skin, if you take a couple more necessary showers during the day.

Since commencing regular practise, I've found a shower before practise and a meagre application of odourless anti-perspirant sufficient.
I'm guessing sweat is clean (after regular practise) and it's the bacteria on the skin that lead to odour. doug |
